The buzz-phrase "political correctness" is often just an excuse for people who do not wish to consider the feelings of others. Since it has been so demonized ("political correctness" is just an epithet; it's not a position that anyone really takes -- there are no bumper stickers saying "Politically Correct -- And Proud of It"), we all have a license to say whatever dopey thing comes into our heads.

People who behave that way often announce that they are "just telling the truth." This just in: The truth is either unknowable or infinitely mutable depending on your belief system; in either event, no individual can speak in its name.
