Measles banished from the Americas

An aggressive programme of measles immunisation across the Americas seems to have paid off, only two years behind schedule. The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) is now reporting an unprecedented two-month absence of any locally transmitted measles infections. In 1994, there were 250,000 cases in the region.
