Public's burden is down, so why the outrage?:

What is it about April 15 that brings out the worst in Americans?

I'm not talking about taxpayers who snap their pencils in frustration over IRS instruction booklets.

I'm talking about people who resent the notion that society chooses to do some things collectively -- educating its children, defending its borders, protecting public health -- and then we have to pay for it.

i am, in case you didn't know, one of those people who'd be happy to pay more taxes. overjoyed, in fact.
