this poet is a little angrier than i am, but it's good/useful reading anyhow.
privilege by D.A. Clarke
the full title of the poem is:
privilege
a poem for men who don't understand what we mean when we say they have it
as a note, i don't wish i could type better just in case. i type fairly fast and fairly accurately, and i know that. i also am good at answering phones, good at filing, and good at working the front desk of whereever.
how many male system administrators do you suppose have ever thought about whether or not they'd be able to get a clerical job if they needed to?

My mother-in-law just learned to use the internet this fall, and I am so good at not wincing while I watch her hunt and peck in emails. She said she was urged to learn to type by her mother, so she could always have that to "fall back on". She decided she didn't want to fall back on anything, and became a doctor instead.
She says she's sad she can't touchtype. I think that it's actually something she should be proud of, in a way.
wow that's quite a poem.
i took typing but suck at it (i was an editor and a proofreader though, so the results usually don't show it except in real time typing). actually proofreading was my fallback but now people rely on spellcheckers. i guess i'd better hope that ability to do stuff with large spreadsheets stays in demand....

I'm a guy.
My career path was sysadmin. (Now Networking).
I got there *by* doing clerical for years.
I guess I just like to be difficult and not fit into anyone's mold.
