on this day, 25 years ago, Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov correctly identified signals being received by his systems as a computer glitch, and chose not to send nuclear missiles towards the united states in retaliation for what his systems were telling him was a small nuclear attack on moscow.

i was ten, just started seventh grade, looking forward to my birthday in a few weeks, getting used to junior high.
